(Vatican City - May 6, 2025) – An agreement has been signed designating the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Prosecco (Consorzio di Tutela della DOC Prosecco) as the Official Sparkling Wine Partner for the events of the Holy See Pavilion during Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for Fundamental Questions of Evangelization in the World, and Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Prosecco.
From April 13 to October 13, 2025, Prosecco DOC will be available at all official events at the Holy See Pavilion, bringing a taste of Italian excellence to the prestigious international event. Guests of the Pavilion, coming from all over the world, will be able to appreciate Prosecco DOC - a symbol of ‘Made in Italy’ production in terms of quality, tradition and innovation - confirming the deep bond between Italy and the art of beauty, a central theme also for Expo 2025.
Giancarlo Guidolin, the President of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Prosecco, said: “It is an honor to be part of an event of such importance, not only to offer our excellent product to the world, but also to support a cultural cause of such importance. In particular, we are proud to have made possible the exhibition of the painting of "The Deposition of Christ" by Caravaggio for the first time in Japan. It is a masterpiece which bears witness to the quality and importance of Italian art. This is an extraordinary opportunity to share with the Japanese people, and an international public, a fundamental part of our cultural history.”
The theme of the Holy See Pavilion, "Beauty brings Hope", resonates deeply with the mission of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Prosecco, which also seeks to instill hope through the experience of quality wine and art. "Beauty is a universal source of inspiration which unites people, fueling love and activity," said Archbishop Fisichella. “Prosecco DOC, with its great spirit of tradition and innovation, proclaims this beauty which, like art, has the power to transform the human experience.”
President Guidolin concluded, “Japan is a reliable partner for us but it is also a market which demands the highest quality, and offers interesting growth potential for Prosecco DOC. This partnership further strengthens our commitment to consolidating our presence in Asia.”
Italian art will have a place of honor at Expo 2025, where "The Deposition of Christ", painted by Caravaggio between 1602 and 1604, will remain on display from April 13 to October 13, with opening hours from 9am-7pm.
The extraordinary presence of a masterpiece of such importance demonstrates the importance of this event and the alliance between culture, art and tradition that the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Prosecco and the Holy See promote together, helping to spread a message of beauty, hope and connection between the cultures of the world.
